Journal of Life Sciences, Systems and Technologies

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Life Sciences, Systems and Technologies accepts original research, review articles, case reports, technical notes, and other scholarly contributions that align with the journal’s interdisciplinary scope. The journal publishes work at the intersection of biological research, systems-based analysis, and technological applications. Authors are advised to read the following guidelines carefully and adhere to the specified formatting, referencing, and ethical standards.

All manuscripts must be submitted in English and must demonstrate academic clarity, grammatical accuracy, and a logical structure. Manuscripts that do not meet the required formatting may be returned to the authors prior to peer review.

Article Types

Original Research Articles: Full-length manuscripts reporting novel findings in systems biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or technological development within life sciences.

Review Articles: Comprehensive overviews of current knowledge on a specific topic, including critical evaluation and identification of knowledge gaps.

Short Communications: Concise reports of significant preliminary findings, novel techniques, or proof-of-concept work.

Case Studies: Practical insights into the application of systems or technologies in biological, clinical, agricultural, or environmental contexts.

Technical Notes: Detailed descriptions of methods, tools, instrumentation, or computational pipelines that advance life sciences research.

Commentaries and Perspectives: Scholarly reflections on emerging trends, conceptual frameworks, or technological implications within the field.

Letters to the Editor: Short contributions or feedback related to previously published articles.

General Formatting

Manuscripts should be prepared using standard word processing software. Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spacing, and 2.5 cm margins on all sides. Pages should be numbered consecutively.

Title Page

The title page should include the full title of the manuscript, names of all authors, their institutional affiliations, the email address of the corresponding author, funding acknowledgements, and any conflicts of interest.

Abstract

An abstract of 250 to 300 words must accompany all submissions. The abstract should briefly summarise the study’s background, objectives, methods, key findings, and conclusions. Abstracts for review articles should clearly indicate the scope of the literature covered.

Keywords

Authors should provide four to six keywords relevant to the study. These keywords will assist with indexing and discoverability.

Main Text

Research articles should follow a structured format. Standard sections include:

Introduction: Contextualise the study, outline the research problem, and state the objectives.

Materials and Methods: Describe the experimental design, analytical procedures, instrumentation, software, and statistical methods used. Provide sufficient detail to ensure reproducibility.

Results: Present findings using clear narrative supported by tables and figures where applicable.

Discussion: Interpret results in relation to existing literature, discuss implications, and acknowledge limitations.

Conclusion: Provide a concise summary of the study’s contributions and suggest future directions.

Other article types may follow a flexible structure but should maintain clarity and academic rigour.

Tables and Figures

All tables and figures must be cited in the main text. Tables should be placed after the references or embedded within the text and must have descriptive titles. Figures must be submitted as high-resolution files (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF). Each figure must include a caption. Avoid duplicating data across tables and figures.

References

All references cited in the text must be listed at the end of the manuscript. The journal accepts citations in APA style. Authors must ensure accuracy and consistency in referencing.

Ethical Considerations

Authors must adhere to established ethical practices in research and publication. All studies involving human participants or animals must include a statement of ethical approval from an appropriate institutional review board or ethics committee. Informed consent must be obtained for human subject research. Where applicable, authors should follow relevant biosafety and data-sharing protocols.

Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to provide access to data underlying their findings. Where applicable, include a data availability statement at the end of the manuscript, indicating whether data are available upon request, deposited in public repositories, or subject to access restrictions.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal interests that may influence the research. Conflict of interest statements should be included on the title page.

Funding

Authors should acknowledge all sources of financial support, including grants, institutional support, or commercial sponsorship.

Submission Procedure

Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s online submission portal. The following items must be uploaded:

Main manuscript file (including title page and abstract)

Tables and figures (embedded or separate)

Supplementary files (if any)

A cover letter briefly describing the article’s relevance to the journal and its contribution to the field

By submitting a manuscript, the authors confirm that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts are reviewed using a double-blind peer review process. Each submission is evaluated by two or more independent reviewers based on scientific merit, clarity, methodological integrity, and relevance. Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewer comments.

Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted within the timeline specified in the editorial decision letter. Final decisions rest with the editorial board, which ensures consistency with the journal’s scope and quality standards.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

An Article Processing Charge will be levied upon acceptance of the manuscript. Authors will be notified of the applicable charge at the time of final acceptance.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright over their work and grant the journal the right to publish and disseminate it under an open-access model. Published articles may be archived in institutional repositories or shared in accordance with the journal’s licensing terms, with appropriate attribution.

Editorial Assistance

The editorial office is available to support authors throughout the submission and review process. For questions related to article suitability, formatting, citation style, or revision instructions, authors are encouraged to contact the editorial team prior to submission.
