Journal of Medical Physics and Biophysics Simulations

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Medical Physics & Biophysics Simulations publishes original work in the areas of computational modelling, medical physics, and simulation applied to biological and clinical systems. Authors submitting to this journal must follow the guidelines outlined below to ensure clarity, consistency, and scientific rigour.

Manuscripts must be written in English and formatted according to the journal’s submission standards. Work that does not meet formatting or ethical requirements may be returned for correction before entering peer review.

Article Types

Original Research Articles: Full-length papers presenting simulation studies, modelling methods, or applied analyses relevant to medical physics and biological systems.

Review Articles: Scholarly reviews of the current state of research in simulation, computational tools, or physics-based modelling techniques.

Technical Notes: Concise papers describing novel algorithms, simulation frameworks, software tools, or computational innovations.

Application Reports: Practical implementation studies demonstrating the role of simulation in clinical or experimental workflows.

Validation and Benchmarking Studies: Evaluations of model performance, reproducibility, or parameter sensitivity.

Educational Simulations and Training Platforms: Reports on virtual learning tools, procedural rehearsal environments, or visualisation-based instruction.

Letters to the Editor: Short responses, clarifications, or commentary related to prior articles or domain-specific discussions.

General Formatting

Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word format using Times New Roman font, 12-point size, and double spacing. Margins should be 2.5 cm on all sides. Pages must be numbered sequentially.

Title Page

The title page must include the following details:

Full title of the manuscript
Author names with institutional affiliations
Corresponding author contact details
Declaration of funding sources
Conflict of interest disclosures
Acknowledgement of technical or data support, where relevant

Abstract

Each submission must include a structured abstract of 250 to 300 words. Abstracts for research articles should include background, objective, methodology, main results, and conclusions. Abstracts for review articles should provide a brief overview of the literature covered and key insights.

Keywords

Authors should provide four to six keywords that reflect the core scientific and technical themes of the manuscript.

Main Text Structure

Research articles should include the following sections:

Introduction: Define the problem, scope, and relevance of the simulation or modelling effort.

Methods: Provide detailed information about computational tools, modelling frameworks, parameters used, data inputs, solver details, and boundary conditions. Authors should include enough information to ensure reproducibility.

Results: Present output from simulations or model runs. Use tables, figures, and metrics as needed to support claims.

Discussion: Interpret results in light of prior work, validate model behaviour, and highlight potential applications, strengths, or limitations.

Conclusion: Summarise main findings and suggest directions for future research.

Other article types (reviews, technical notes, and application reports) may use alternate structures, but should maintain clear logic and academic tone.

Tables and Figures

All tables must include a title and clearly labelled columns and rows. Tables may be embedded within the manuscript or placed after the reference list.

Figures must be high-resolution (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF format). Each figure must be accompanied by a caption and should be cited in the main text. Simulation results must include axis labels, scales, and relevant parameter notes.

References

All references cited in the text must be listed at the end of the manuscript. The journal accepts citations in APA style. Authors must ensure accuracy and consistency in referencing.

Ethical Considerations

Authors must confirm that all data and computational work comply with institutional, ethical, and privacy standards. For manuscripts that involve patient data or retrospective simulations based on clinical records, authors must provide details of ethics approval or institutional exemption. Any data involving patients must be de-identified.

If the manuscript includes figures or data derived from patient imaging, appropriate consent must be obtained and documented.

Software and Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to include supplementary material such as simulation code, input files, or model documentation. Repositories such as GitHub, Zenodo, or institutional archives may be used. Links to software packages or datasets must be active and clearly referenced.

Submissions describing tools or platforms must indicate system requirements, licensing status, and, where applicable, user documentation.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any professional, financial, or institutional interests that may influence the interpretation or reporting of results. This information should appear on the title page and also be acknowledged within the manuscript where relevant.

Submission Process

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system. The following items should be included:

Main manuscript file
Tables and figures (if not embedded)
Any supplementary materials (datasets, code, appendices)
A cover letter stating the relevance of the work and confirming that it is original and not under review elsewhere

Submissions must conform to the journal’s editorial standards for academic writing, citation, and technical clarity.

Peer Review Process

All submissions are subject to double-blind peer review. At least two reviewers will assess each manuscript based on scientific merit, technical clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Authors may be required to revise their manuscripts based on reviewer feedback.

The editorial board reserves the right to reject submissions that do not meet the journal’s publication standards.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

An Article Processing Charge will be levied upon acceptance of the manuscript. Information regarding payment will be communicated to the corresponding author at the time of acceptance.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright over their published work. By submitting to this journal, authors grant the publisher the right to publish and disseminate the work under an open-access model. Reuse of material must include appropriate attribution.

Editorial Support

The editorial team is available to assist with questions related to formatting, submission procedures, and publication ethics. Authors are encouraged to contact the editorial office if they require clarification on any aspect of the process.
