Journal of Subsurface Energy, Fluids, and Environmental Systems

Journal of Subsurface Energy, Fluids, and Environmental Systems

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Subsurface Energy, Fluids, and Environmental Systems accepts submissions that examine subsurface energy recovery, fluid dynamics, and environmental processes. Manuscripts must reflect a commitment to intellectual rigour, clarity, and ethical research practice. Submissions should be original, clearly written, and relevant to the journal’s core themes.

All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s online submission system. Submissions that do not meet the journal’s formatting or ethical standards may be returned to authors before peer review.

Article Types

  • Research Articles: Full-length empirical, theoretical, or simulation-based studies addressing subsurface systems, fluids, or energy resources.
  • Analytical Essays: Conceptual or reflective pieces that examine frameworks or debates in energy recovery, fluid mechanics, or environmental systems.
  • Review Articles: Structured surveys of literature evaluating developments and knowledge gaps in subsurface energy and environmental engineering.
  • Case Studies: Analyses of subsurface projects, energy operations, remediation systems, or monitoring frameworks.
  • Commentary and Perspective: Short reflections on recent developments in subsurface energy, fluids, or environmental research.
  • Policy Analyses: Evaluations of how subsurface and environmental research inform regulation, safety, or sustainability standards.
  • Educational Reports: Descriptions of training models, curriculum development, or capacity-building initiatives related to subsurface or environmental engineering.
  • Letters to the Editor: Scholarly responses to published articles or short notes on emerging topics.

General Formatting

  • All manuscripts must be submitted as Microsoft Word files using Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spacing, and 2.5 cm margins. Pages must be numbered.

Title Page
The title page must include:

  • Full manuscript title
  • Names and institutional affiliations of all authors
  • Corresponding author’s contact details
  • Conflict of interest disclosures
  • Funding acknowledgements (if applicable)
  • Ethical approval statements (if applicable)
  • A short author biography (50–100 words) may be included as a separate file if requested.

Abstract
All submissions must include an abstract of 250 to 300 words summarising the scope, objectives, key methods or arguments, and major findings or insights. It must be suitable for readers outside the author’s primary discipline but with an interest in subsurface energy, fluid systems, or environmental research.

Keywords
Authors should provide four to six keywords that reflect the thematic and disciplinary dimensions of the manuscript. Keywords assist with indexing and retrieval.

Main Text
For research manuscripts, the following structure is recommended:

  • Introduction: Define the research problem or question and its relevance to subsurface energy, fluids, or environmental systems.
  • Methods: Describe methodological approaches, data sources, fieldwork, experiments, simulations, or theoretical frameworks.
  • Results or Argument: Present findings, models, or conceptual contributions. Include figures, tables, or diagrams where appropriate.
  • Discussion: Interpret significance, integration with other research, limitations, and potential applications.
  • Conclusion: Summarise key contributions and future implications.

Other article types may use flexible structures, provided the content is coherent and scholarly.

Tables and Figures

  • All tables and figures must be clearly labelled, numbered, and cited in the text.
  • Figures should be submitted in high-resolution formats (JPEG, PNG, TIFF).
  • Captions should be concise and informative.
  • Supplementary materials such as datasets, field measurements, or appendices should be submitted separately with appropriate description.

References
All references cited in the text must be listed at the end of the manuscript in APA style. Authors must ensure accuracy and consistency.

Ethical Considerations
Submissions involving fieldwork, environmental sampling, or studies with human participants (e.g., community surveys) must include a statement regarding ethics approval or exemption.

For case studies or industry collaborations, authors should describe informed consent processes, environmental responsibility, and compliance with regulations. When applicable, manuscripts should address environmental impact, safety, and responsible use of data.

Conflict of Interest
All authors must declare any financial, institutional, or professional relationships that could influence the interpretation of their work.

Funding Disclosure
Authors must acknowledge all sources of financial support. If no funding was received, this should be stated clearly.

Submission Requirements
Submissions must be made through the online system and include:

  • Main manuscript
  • Title page
  • Tables and figures (if separate)
  • Supplementary materials (if applicable)
  • Cover letter outlining originality and relevance

Peer Review
All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review by experts in subsurface engineering, fluids, and environmental systems.

Article Processing Charge (APC)
An APC will be applied upon acceptance. Details will be provided to the corresponding author.

Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright of their work. Articles are published under an open-access model with proper attribution required for reuse.

Editorial Support
The editorial team is available to address questions about formatting, ethics, or manuscript preparation.
