The Journal of Human Augmentation, Exoskeletons and Prosthetic Interfaces accepts submissions that contribute to the scientific, clinical, technological, and ethical understanding of assistive and wearable human–machine systems. Manuscripts must be original, clearly written, and relevant to the journal’s focus on augmentative devices, prosthetic interfaces, and biomechanical integration.
All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s submission portal. Authors must confirm that their submission has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere.
Article Types
Original Research Articles: Full-length papers reporting novel findings in the design, development, testing, or clinical evaluation of augmentation technologies, prosthetic systems, neural interfaces, or wearable assistive devices.
Technical Reports: Detailed accounts of new devices, sensor systems, control methods, signal-processing techniques, or design innovations with validation data.
Clinical Evaluation Studies: Research focused on rehabilitation outcomes, user adaptation, safety, or efficacy of augmentation systems in therapeutic or community settings.
Review Articles: Structured literature reviews that synthesise research trends, identify knowledge gaps, or offer conceptual insights into assistive technologies or human–machine interaction.
Perspective or Commentary: Scholarly reflections on emerging developments, policy implications, user experience, or ethical dimensions of augmentation technologies.
Case Studies: Reports of applied work, pilot implementations, or patient-specific integration of prosthetic or wearable systems.
Letters to the Editor: Short, focused contributions engaging with recent articles or raising timely research or clinical observations.
Formatting Requirements
Submissions must be prepared using Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spacing, and standard 2.5 cm margins. All pages must be numbered sequentially. Submissions must be provided in Microsoft Word format.
Title Page
The title page should include:
Abstract
All manuscripts must include an abstract of 250 to 300 words. The abstract should describe the study’s background, methods, key findings, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Abstracts must be comprehensible to readers across disciplines.
Keywords
Please provide four to six keywords that reflect the article’s subject matter. Keywords should support article indexing and retrieval.
Main Text
For most original research articles, the following structure is recommended:
Introduction: Outline the background, research question, and significance of the study. Clearly situate the work within current literature.
Methods: Provide sufficient detail on materials, device specifications, data collection procedures, signal acquisition, modelling techniques, or clinical evaluation protocols.
Results: Present the main findings with appropriate figures, tables, or charts. Data should be described clearly and in logical sequence.
Discussion: Interpret results in relation to the aims of the study, limitations, and implications for practice or further research.
Conclusion: Summarise the key contributions and any practical or technical takeaways.
Other formats such as technical reports, reviews, or commentaries may follow flexible structures, provided the logic and scholarly clarity are preserved.
Tables and Figures
All tables and figures must be numbered and cited in the text. Tables should include descriptive titles. Figures must be submitted in high-resolution format (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF) with appropriate captions. Authors must ensure that figures are legible and technically accurate.
Supplementary materials, such as schematics, sensor maps, videos, or simulation code, may be included and should be referenced clearly in the main text.
References
All references cited in the text must be listed at the end of the manuscript. The journal accepts citations in APA style. Authors must ensure accuracy and consistency in referencing.
Ethical Considerations
All research involving human participants must comply with ethical standards. Authors must include a statement confirming that ethical approval was obtained from a recognised institutional review board or equivalent body. Informed consent must be obtained from all participants in studies involving clinical testing, performance tracking, or sensory data collection.
If the study includes imagery, movement data, or prosthetic interface data that could be linked to individuals, steps to protect anonymity must be described.
Research involving animals, experimental implants, or biomedical materials must comply with international standards and include approval statements where applicable.
Conflict of Interest
All authors must declare any financial or institutional relationships that may influence the content or outcome of the submitted work. Conflict of interest statements must be included on the title page and clearly noted in the manuscript when relevant.
Funding Acknowledgement
All sources of financial support, institutional backing, or device provision must be acknowledged. This includes grants, fellowships, or industry sponsorships. If the study was conducted without external funding, authors should state this explicitly.
Data and Supplementary Content
The journal encourages the sharing of data, device blueprints, control code, and simulation environments. Authors may use recognised repositories or submit files directly. Supplementary materials should be listed in a separate section and cited appropriately within the manuscript.
Submission Checklist
A complete submission includes:
Authors must confirm that all co-authors have approved the submission and that the work complies with the journal’s ethical policies.
Peer Review
All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review. Reviewers are selected based on expertise in biomedical engineering, neurotechnology, clinical rehabilitation, robotics, or human–computer interaction. Manuscripts are evaluated for scientific merit, technical accuracy, user relevance, and contribution to the field.
Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts based on reviewer feedback. Revisions should be submitted within the time frame provided by the editorial office.
Article Processing Charge (APC)
An Article Processing Charge will be levied upon acceptance of the manuscript. Full details will be provided to the corresponding author at the time of final decision.
Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright of their published articles. By submitting a manuscript, authors grant the journal permission to publish the content under an open-access licence. Articles may be shared and archived freely, provided appropriate citation is given.
Editorial Assistance
For queries related to submission, formatting, scope, ethics, or revisions, authors may contact the editorial office. The team is available to provide guidance throughout the review and publication process.
