Study of the Impact of Microcystin Exposure on Human Liver and Kidney Function in the Context of Eutrophication in Dianshan Lake

Abstract:
To investigate the eutrophication status of Dianshan Lake, which is located in Qingpu district, Shanghai, and to evaluate any health risks associated with water exposure, we evaluated the effects of eutrophication of water bodies and algal toxins on liver and kidney function in the local population. We reviewed past monitoring and evaluated the water quality improvement and health impact on the population after implementing water quality protection measures for Dianshan Lake. We monitored the source water of Dianshan Lake monthly throughout the year and analysed the water quality, eutrophication, and algal toxin pollution status and health risks of the local population, including liver and kidney function. We found that the water quality changed with the season and hydrological period and that moderate eutrophication mainly manifested as excessive nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations. After comparison with the monitoring data from Fudan University and other institutions in the past, we believe that water was better than that observed in a previous survey [1]. The concentrations of the seven MC variants ranged from below the limit of quantification (
