Gastroenterology in the Reflection of a Number of Collecting Tools

Abstract:
This study explores the representation of gastroenterology and prominent gastroenterologists in the fields of philately and numismatics. The objective of the research was to identify, analyze, and systematize collectible materials—such as postage stamps, first-day covers, commemorative envelopes, and table medals—dedicated to gastroenterology and related scientific figures. A literary-critical analysis and an extensive online search of international philatelic and numismatic resources were conducted. The findings revealed a diverse and substantial collection of thematic materials issued by various countries across different years. In total, 25 collectible items were documented, including postage stamps, first-day covers, artistic stamped envelopes, and commemorative medals. The results demonstrate that auxiliary historical disciplines such as philately and numismatics can serve as valuable visual and cultural tools for reflecting the development of medical sciences, including gastroenterology. This study highlights the interdisciplinary connection between medicine, history, and collecting practices, offering a unique contribution to both medical historiography and thematic collecting research.
