Fuel Efficiency Strategies for Ethiopian Airlines’ Long-Haul Fleet

Abstract:
Fuel efficiency is a key topic in the modern aviation industry, becoming more important because of rising fuel costs, environmental concerns, and international carbon reduction commitments. This study evaluates the operational fuel efficiency of Ethiopian Airlines’ long-haul fleet by analyzing aircraft performance across selected intercontinental routes. I quantify the amount of fuel burn, fuel cost and carbon dioxide emissions that can be saved by switching between three aircraft (B787-9, B777-200LR, and A350-900) on three different routes: Addis Ababa - London, Addis Ababa - São Paulo, and Addis Ababa - Bangkok. I also show the amount of CO2 emissions that can be saved by using blends of SAF.
