Abstract:
Down syndrome is a genetic condition with dysmorphic features and various systemic features. Recurrent UTI is one of the presenting clinical features of the condition. We presented a 17-year old male adolescent with Down syndrome, and recurrent presentation with urinary retention. He had an open suprapubic cystostomy to relieve him in the acute state. He has had recurrent urethral catheterization, with subsequent development of urethral stricture, resulting in the need for open suprapubic cystostomy. A holistic care was instituted encompassing family support, psychological support, educational support, and obesity management.
